Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"We loved this place! The food is both delicious and healthy. A perfect way to start your day. The service is very polite and attentive to detail. You might have to wait for a table since it’s quite popular, but it’s absolutely worth it. Highly recommended, and we’re already looking forward to coming back!"
"The place is just next to London Eye. We were looking for a British breakfast with halal option and they offered what we wanted. The place is very nice and the staff is kind. Highly recommend it."
"We stopped in for breakfast on the way to the train station on Sunday, verry suprised to fall on such a nice place. Food was amazing, staff were friendly and a good atmosphere. What more could you want. We didnt book and was lucky to get a table as it was busy, so I would recommend if its planned to go here get a table booked in ."
"We visited the Southbank branch. Delicious food, mimosas were delish too, extensive menu with unusual choices which was lovely. It was busy we were there at lunchtime so glad we booked as it was a Saturday but we ended up sitting outside as was quieter. They have a beautiful outdoor seating area with lounge chairs in the front (don't think undercover?) and round the side there is undercover seating if the weather isn't playing ball. Service was great even though we were outside never had to wait for anything and waitresses were friendly. Can't wait to go again."
"The Black Penny in Waterloo is such a great find. The vibe is super cozy and relaxed — perfect for brunch or just a good coffee break. The food is always fresh and full of flavour (the sweetcorn fritters are amazing!), and the coffee is honestly some of the best I’ve had in London. The staff are lovely — friendly, quick, and always make you feel welcome. It’s the kind of spot you end up coming back to again and again. Definitely my go-to in Waterloo! Special Thanks to Kaan, Ismail & Ozge you guys rock"
"First time at The Black Penny. We went for brunch (London-style) and both ordered the same dish: smoked salmon, scrambled eggs (absolutely delish, by the way), and sourdough toast. I opted for a matcha latte and later a peach bellini, while my partner had a gingerbread latte. The atmosphere was relaxed and stylish without feeling pretentious — very much a laid-back, modern London brunch vibe. It was busy but not chaotic, with a nice mix of couples, friends, and solo diners. Service was friendly and efficient, and everything arrived fresh. Overall, a solid brunch spot and somewhere I’d happily return to."
"Stunning breakfast/brunch spot. I had the ‘Gatherer’ - a vegetarian breakfast and a plate full of tasty, homemade food. The ‘Black Penny baked beans’ were absolutely delicious. My coffee of choice was a long black. The café was particularly busy on a Sunday morning and therefore service was a little slow. However, I understand why - it’s such a lovely place."
"I returned to Black Penny but this time to a branch one hasn’t visited. I went to the Soho branch for breakfast and I was curious about if Black Penny could maintain the quality control which the other two branches did well. I went for the Brioche French Toast (Whipped lemon ricotta, black cardamon sugar, blueberry compote, and toasted almonds) and my fellow humans they delivered. I have had their French toast multiple times and it fulfilled the assignment. Black Penny’s signature French toast was brilliantly presented and full of flavour. The staff were lovely and the ambience was pleasant. Another wonderful experience at this establishment."
